Melbourne: Day 1

Getting into the Aussie spirit of things, we decided to have a more laid back day and wander round the local area rather than going further afield.

We spent the morning catching up on sleep (and the blog) when James decided to try out our new tent.

We’re planning on camping throughout most of our upcoming New Zealand leg of the adventure so invested in a tent designed for quick and easy assembly.

This looks pretty compact, how’s this gonna work?
Oh wow, just like that then

It’s a pop-up design meaning that (hopefully) setting up camp should be as simple as just letting the tent out of the bag!

Obligatory “here’s our feet and the view” shot

It’s fairly spacious so we have hopes of success in New Zealand!

As it always seems to be the way with these things though, putting it up is simpler than putting it away..

uuuuhh…
We even had to refer to The Instructions

Luckily we figured it out fairly quickly after actually reading the supplied information, and managed to get it down and packed. With some practice we hope the below video would be closer to a realtime set up and takedown of the tent!

After all of our tent shenanigans we decided to take a wander into the town, partly for the enjoyment of a walk and partly to help kit us up for the far cooler temperatures than what we have happily become accustomed to in the last month.

We’re excited about the presence of pavements
James’ favourite building in Geelong
New construction happening since we were last here
There’s actual pedestrian crossings here! And traffic tends to actually adhere to them!

Our wander round Geelong city centre had built up our appetites and so the need for lunch became quickly imminent.

Good ‘ol cheese toastie and chocolatey slice

We decided to walk back to the house and spend the evening with James’ family who fed us oh so well with delicious tacos, its lovely to be around a family atmosphere and they have, as always, been so welcoming.

As dinner was being prepared we decided to make the most of the evening and having a dog to play with, so we went for another walk around the area.

Lovely leafy suburbs
The old cement works are lying empty but are crying out for some development

Continuing with our running theme of the trip where we’re often in new places and not entirely sure where we’re going, it was nice to have Gary as our tour guide who showed us some interesting spots.

A lookout over the valley
The view

It was lovely to watch the sunset over Geelong and we look forward to another day!

  1. Love Melbourne! Get into the central area, they had some pretty cool sculptures in the city centre when I was there. Also get your butts to Lord of the Fries – all veggie, much of it vegan!

  2. You both look so happy 👍🏼❤️👍🏼❤️ Melbourne looks as lovely in the spring as it looked when you were there last time in the summer xx
Hattie, you had a tent like that when you were little 😄❤️
