Brisbane: Day 1

We awoke to a beautiful day in Brisbane and ready to explore the city!

No breakfast at the hostel meant we had to fend for ourselves and grabbed another breakfast picnic. We still think it’s fantastic having the outdoor spaces and the weather here to eat al fresco whenever we please!

We were keen to head over to the cultural centre again and explore more of what it had to offer now that it would be open.

The GOMA had an interesting mix of works from both international and Australian artists, and the Indigenous Australian Collection gave a wonderful insight into the culture and history we were keen to learn more about.

A building itself was a sight to behold

All arted out we decided to wander further west and explore more of Brisbane.

Fish Lane

We found ourselves wandering down Fish Lane and at the end were surprised by just a little more art, this time by the lovely Eleanor and James Avery!

We continued our path to nowhere in particular when, at just about lunchtime we came across a street food market.

This isn’t just any street food market though. It’s a vegan street food market! We were pretty excited and wanted to try a little of everything! We only managed to fit in a couple of the vendors however, but we would definitely like to come back and try some more of the delicious looking food.

To walk off lunch we continued on our aimless wander through the city and before long found ourselves back on the riverside.

Follow the rainbow road!

The Southbank has a lovely path along its side and we enjoyed walking along here and seeing more of the cityscape.

Unconfirmed fish species

We came to Story Bridge and decided it was definitely worth crossing for further views.

With the sun setting and our stomachs ready for filling again we found a cosy little restaurant serving up delicious food (which happened to be back over the river again!)

Veggie pizza

Not quite ready to hit the hay yet we headed back the long way and enjoyed the beautiful views of the CBD by night.

We’ve loved our short time here in Brisbane and look forward to hopefully returning soon! Tomorrow we’re off on a new adventure entirely, starting our self-guided camping tour of New Zealand!
