Bali: Day 6

Today is our final full day here in Bali so we’ve made the most of it. We enjoyed our breakfast in the sun with no real plans for the day. Although we knew the pool, food and sunshine was going to play a major part.

Our breakfast in all its glory

The fresh fruit and readily available watermelon juice will definitely be missed!

Following the appropriate amount of time after stuffing our faces with pancakes and fruit, we dove (or gently sauntered) into the pool where we took up residence for the next few hours.

Trying to look chill while James manages to keep the camera dry

Some days are action packed or have early rises and late finishes; and other days mostly consist of vegging out and food. Today was the latter.

Going for a later lunch we walked further into the town to Dayu’s Warung, another organic and veggie friendly establishment.

Banana & Peanut Smoothie, and Pina Chocolate Colada (no alcohol, just fruit and chocolate)
The banana leaves contain steamed pumpkin and coconut, green curry and beet salad sides
Tempeh burrito; Balinese style

The food was absolutely delicious and to continue the running theme with Ubud; the staff were really friendly and helpful too.

Eager to walk off a little of lunch, and spend some more time in the town, we walked back to the hotel the long way. Not rice fields and getting lost by rivers long, but not the direct route at least.

Often overwhelmed with the overall sensory overload of a new place (say that three times, fast) we were taking in smaller details of life in Ubud.

Unfortunately this juice bar looked to be closed down, but their recipe still stands
Construction is ever present and these bags of cement are normally transported by moped
Where we’re going, we don’t need pavements

As we approached our hotel once more, we stopped in to the coffee shop James had visited previously for his afternoon pick-me-up.

Owned by another laid back and friendly local, he seemed slightly in awe of James’ declination of sugar “are you sure? My coffee is really bitter?!” A vote of confidence from the man himself! But unperturbed James took his coffee sugarless and seemed to enjoy it all the same.

Interesting art in the coffee roasters. The artistic community seems to be very vibrant here

And so it wasn’t long before once again, we were enjoying the sun and pool.

No clothes, nor coffee will stop James from hopping in the pool

As the afternoon wore on and the sun went in, we decided to take our now pruny bodies and go on the hunt for dinner.

Vegetable pizza
Pesto pizza

We found a tiny pizza place and decided to treat ourselves. There’s something about intermittent exercising and then doing a whole lotta nothin’ that puts us in the mood for pizza!

One of the many art galleries present in and around Ubud.

Walking back to our hotel for our last evening in Bali, we thought about how much we’ve thoroughly enjoyed this beautiful little island and how we’d love to return one day. However, we are of course, looking forward to our next stop and what that may hold for us too.

Time isn’t up here yet though, we may even have time to get lost in a rice field tomorrow too!

  1. I convinced James that a tank top was a good idea. It was the first time his shoulders had seen the light of day, so 3 hours of baking heat in Bangkok and his shoulders and the sun seemed to disagree :S xx
