Bali: Day 5

Today we broke our routine and jumped straight into the pool after breakfast. It was a particularly hot day, around 30°C, so a refreshing dip was welcomed. It was slightly overcast towards the start of the week, which made from some great walking days… but now the heat is real!

Although they look like a cross between Shrek and a slug, the deckchairs are v. comfortable!

After a prolonged swim we headed into town to have a look around. I couldn’t resist the temptation to return to Wulan Vegetarian Warung for a quick bit to eat, before we continued on to skirt the town and find the traditional market for a quick look around.

Although we kicked the routine, we are still creatures of habit!
The spicy tempeh dish is on par with my favourite dish of the trip, the Thai green curry in Bangkok!
H. had some glorious looking savoury pancakes!
A quick palate cleanser, some could argue: vegan chocolate brownies!

We walked South, away from our previous explorations, and towards the Monkey Temple. We decided pretty early on not to visit the Monkey Temple for various reasons, so we walked around the perimeter on route to the traditional market.

More glorious use of bamboo to prop concrete formwork. ‘How many bamboo sticks do you think we’ll need?’….’Several’.
After a quick look around, our favourite stall sold glass vessels that had been blown over tree burrs / burls.
A contextual shot of the market, fairly vibrant, most stalls seemed to be inward facing in a warren of corridors in the surrounding buildings.

Back to the pool for a temperature normalising cycle. Note to self; pools are great for cooling off if you live in / are visiting a warm climate.

Then on to dinner. After a quick scout around we stumbled across the Bali Buda, a great venue tucked behind the busy high street. As it turns out the BB has several sister venues across Bali, all sharing the same values of promoting organic produce sourced from local folks!

10 points if you spot the gecko.
The menu arrived, a newspaper, with the food options (obviously) and several interesting food based articles.
Across from the Bali Buda was a glorious light box, home to many a gecko (mini lizard).

The food arrived!

‘Veggie Nasi Goreng’
‘Tofu & Cashew Curry’
After a quick chow down, the newspaper menu was studied in great detail.

It was a slow waddle home!
