Bali: Day 2

Keeping in with our attempt at a slower pace here in Bali we had a leisurely morning enjoying our terrace before heading out for the afternoon via picking up our laundry. It may be a small pleasure having a fresh load of clothes and a choice in what to wear, but the novelty doesn’t wear off every time we get our clean clothes back.

The morning had gotten away from us and so we stopped for a spot of lunch at a lovely veggie establishment called Nine Heaven Vegan. Last night’s meal wasn’t my friend and I was feeling a little sensitive so opted for a simple rice dish, although it was still super tasty and packed with flavour.

After lunch and taking our fresh laundry back to the hotel we decided the best thing to do would be to climb a hill. So we did.

You may have noticed by now but any opportunity to head slightly off the beaten track and see a different side to a place – particularly a green side – and we’ll take it. We read up about a great walk up Campuhan Ridge and although the reviews had said it was a fairly simple walk we geared up expecting something akin to our previous treks.

Sign posts are a good start!

What we faced however was less Hong Kong’s The Peak and more a nice walk through the Indonesian countryside.

Not that we’re complaining however, it was a wonderful break from the town centre and gave us new views of the area.

What was recommended as an over 30 minute walk must have taken us about 20 minutes. So when we arrived at the designated end of the walk, Karsa Kafe where most people would stop for refreshments and then head back, we decided to continue on through the village and loop back.

This gave us an excellent opportunity to see more of the beautiful rice terraces and local life in a quiet setting.

It may have taken more time but when exploring somewhere, the long way round is nearly always the best way round.

After what seemed like 3 or 4 times as long as the walk we had originally planned (and some incredibly steep hills) we started to see more of the civilisation that the many mopeds and cars that passed us had come from.

All the walking had certainly built up our appetite and so it was straight to dinner for us. I thought it best to play it safe with food and avoided anything spicy but this falafel wrap was delicious! James enjoyed the mix of flavours in his veg bowl.

After our food, and with the day wearing on, we headed back to our cosy hotel and rested up for another day in paradise.
