One day to go!
I felt it best I do this today when I have a little spare time as tomorrow will mostly be packing, sitting in airports and then on planes… with lots of free time on my hands.
Yesterday we left our humble abode in Aberdeen and headed down the road (via a trip round bits of Scotland) to where I now sit in Edinburgh.
Packing up, loading and unloading were done in several stages as we spread our stuff around various locations in Scotland, which was helpful in that we never had too much to load or unload at any one time, but also meant that we’ve packed and unpacked a van more times in a day than anyone should really.
As mentioned before, we’ve spent the last few weeks really clearing out our stuff and it feels quite nice to wittle belongings down to what we really need and things with medium-to-high sentimental value. Yes the pen collection has diminished. It meant that come moving day, we were able to squeeze everything into the van and be on our way.
I feel as if this last week has been a lot of “Goodbye’s” and “See You Later’s” and “Are You Still Here?” While our upcoming trip is so exciting (and coming round faster than I can catch!) they do tug at the heart strings somewhat. Family and friends will all be missed as daily parts of our lives, and leaving our cosy wee flat surprisingly even had me a little emotional. It was so lovely to have a space that felt safe, welcoming and like home from the very moment we moved in, I hope it feels the same to whichever lucky people have it next. But it’s time for us to move on to even more exciting things and I think even the flat was ready for us to leave as there’s only so much hoovering and cleaning a place can take in an afternoon.
Having stayed with my parents the night before I managed to take the dogs for a quick walk in the sunshine, for my benefit as much as theirs… I understand the way to their hearts; and walks and food are high on the list (sorry I’m going-please love me-here’s a treat-please love me) it was of course, lovely to see my family too but they don’t tend to sulk if I don’t take them for a walk.
Stop number 1 took us back to Aberdeen for the last bits of flat clearing and cleaning, I think James got quite a bit of a workout moving boxes while I made the boxes heavy and then cleaned behind him.
We managed to nip into Parx Cafe before hitting the road for yet more Goodbye’s this time with some delicious Raspberry Cheesecake Brownies in hand, as we drove off onto stop number 2 of the day.
Stop 2 was James’ Grandpa where we were supplied with more tasty treats and wonderful company before James went back to work with his game of real life heavy Tetris. I supervised.
Finally we were on our way to Edinburgh with our last few bits and our bags which contain our lives for the next few months and definitely ready for bed! Today has been a lovely opportunity to relax and gather our thoughts..and any last bits we needed before a dinner tonight for more ‘See You Later’s’ with lovely people and more scrumptious food!
It’s been wonderful to spend a bit of time in Edinburgh today with no need to rush around or any deadlines to meet and so we’ve been able to really enjoy our last stop in Scotland before we’re on our way tomorrow!
