Hong Kong: Day 5

Starting slightly later today after spending the morning picking up laundry and organising for the next leg our our trip, we wanted a more chilled out wander round Hong Kong for our last full day here.

We stopped by a couple of the Aladdin’s Cave shops for an explore and managed to pick up some cheap tops suitable for the next tropic environment.

After a brief bite to eat to keep us going we decided to wander further west of our hotel.

Dr. Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park

Turns out there’s a lovely little park and promenade right round the corner from our hotel! We spent some time wandering around here and taking in more views of the harbour.

The bells! The bells!!
Oh hey look, green!

The park is built in memorial to – you guessed it – Dr. Sun Yat Sen who was exiled from Hong Kong by the British colonial government (sorry) in an attempt to appease the Qing Dynasty, who weren’t his biggest fans because of his leading role in the Chinese Revolution. This place is where he met his friends and supporters in secret aboard a boat, and so this park is reclaimed land to..mark the spot.

Yes, everything seems to be in order here
The view of the harbour was pretty incredible too

From here we decided to try a museum and gallery which, from our research, promised to actually be open. The University Museum and Art Gallery was quite close by and so off we headed, back up the hill.

We were in luck! It was open and we enjoyed our wander round the museum in awe of some of the artefacts on display.

A painting of a part of Hong Kong named Aberdeen! The date of this is unknown but it definitely doesn’t look like this now
A 5000 year old bronze bowl
The details in these wood carvings were fascinating

The collection ranged from the 20th Century to about 200-3000BCE!

These are cast bronze pins, all unique, and all very very old

We had spent so much time bobbing about the park and museum that all of a sudden it was time for dinner. We headed back down to closer to the harbour again and found another spot for dinner.

Don’t be fooled, this ramen was huge!
Our eyes might have been bigger than our stomachs but these veggie buns were delicious too
They provided free bibs and I took full advantage. Oh they may laugh but who got ramen down their top? NOT ME!

Seeing as we were already next to the harbour once again we decided to stick around (and walk off dinner) while watching the sunset over the harbour for our last night in Hong Kong.

Goodnight!
